  The club annual summer picnic has been renamed the ‘Merrillan Christmas Tree Festival’.   The club is adding Christmas tree themed activities to the event.  We have scheduled two bands, Rockabilly Riot and the Shady Glen Band.  To better promote our events the club has purchased two websites, www.merillanlions.org and www.christmastreefest.info.

  To improve our events, the club recently purchased a bouncy house, an inflatable obstacle course, two large event grills, a new movie projector, some custom cookers and fryers, and a commercial cooler for the Gile park shelter.

  The club made several charitable contributions in 2023.  We paid for the mushroom carvings at the Merrillan waterfall, we contributed towards the purchase of new village Christmas lights, we sponsored a local college scholarship, we supported the Lincoln High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) trip, and we made donations towards Lion’s international charities like Lion’s leader dogs for the blind, Lion’s kidney foundation, and the Lion’s Camp for disabled children in Wisconsin.  The club has also set aside funds towards construction of a new bathroom at Gile Memorial Park.

   In 2023, our club assisted individuals in need and other non-profit organizations.  Our construction projects included helping to install a sidewalk, wheelchair ramp, and parking pad for a newly disabled veteran, and installing a new concrete basketball court at the Children’s Tent Camp in Garden Valley.  We assisted at other non-profit sponsored events including the Humbird Rod & Gun Club Car Show, the Alma Center Strawberry Festival Car Show, the Melrose American Legion Car Show, the Black River Falls American Legion Car Show, the Hixton Fire Department Car Show, the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce Trail of Terror, and we set up our tents, picnic tables and bouncy house for the Countryside Church 40th Anniversary celebration.   We have committed to help with these events again in 2024.

   You can help us help the community by donating to our club, becoming a movie or event sponsor, or by becoming a club member.   The club must raise approximately $10,000.00 to cover event start-up costs and movie licensing fees in 2024.  Donations can be made by credit card or by check to the Merrillan Lion’s Club, PO Box 117, Merrillan WI 54754.  Please call with questions.   I thank you for your support.
